It’s family session season!
Last year I took the year to really concentrate on my newborn photography, and it was such an amazing year. That will always be a huge part of my business, but this year I decided to devote a lot of time to really focus on family sessions. I am a thinker, a dreamer and a do-er…I’m constantly coming up with new ideas & projects. I recently did an amazing mentorship with Paisley Ann Photography, and it has caused my ever-moving brain to slow down and really think about what a family session should look like. It’s more than just ‘look at me and smile’, in fact, I hope I never say that again! If your family is anything like mine, that doesn’t fly. I have 3 boys and a girl who fits right in with them, and our days involve lots of noise, boys wrestling, tons of laughter, some quiet moments that are all too suspicious and not a lot of calm. And I love it. If I could have an image on my wall that describes my family as we are now, it would be my 2 & 3 year old boys giving each other horsey-rides, my 6 year old snuggling on my lap & my 8 year old would be the one posing like she is in Vogue, all while my husband looks at them with a smirk. Can anyone relate? So, at my family sessions, it is fun, it is fast, it is not stressful. Let your 3 year old tackle dad, give your baby tons of snuggles, your 7 year old be a little timid and give those silly smiles. It’s who you are, it’s who they are. And that is what you will want to remember. And don’t worry, those ‘posed’ family photos happen naturally without the stress.
The Tusberg family was a great example of what a family session should look like. These two girls were so sweet, but full of spunk! Their parents absolutely adore them, and I felt like a spent a night just hanging out and capturing them being them.
